Frequently Asked Questions
Program Overview
What is an in-school dinosaur field trip?
A school event brings the full hands-on dinosaur experience to your campus. Students rotate through five activity stations in Zone 1, then come together for the show in Zone 2 where they meet the baby dinosaur puppets — five for Basic (Raptor, Pterodactyl, Stegosaurus, Triceratops, and Brachiosaurus) or two for Premium. Premium adds a volcano-eruption opening, an AI-powered robot Triceratops trick show, and an 8-foot T-Rex comedy finale around the petting zoo. No buses, no permission slips, no field-trip logistics — Rangers run the whole event in your gym, courtyard, or multipurpose room.
What grades do you serve?
School events are designed primarily for preschools and daycares, and the format works equally well for elementary schools. We also serve special education schools, summer camps, after-school enrichment programs, homeschool co-ops, and parochial, magnet, charter, IB, and Montessori schools. The experience and pricing are the same regardless of school model.
How does this align with curriculum standards?
Our content aligns with Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and Florida STEM standards. Topics covered include life science, scientific inquiry, earth history, and paleontology. Curriculum draws on source materials from the Smithsonian, the American Museum of Natural History, Harvard Museum of Natural History, the Florida Museum of Natural History, the Paleontological Society, and National Geographic Kids. Pre-event resources include lesson plans, social media posts, flyers, and family communications schools can use in the lead-up.
How far in advance should we book?
The minimum booking lead time is 7 days — the system blocks anything closer. We recommend booking school events 4 to 6 weeks ahead. Popular weeks — Dino Week, Science Week, STEM Days, and end-of-year celebrations — book 6+ weeks out.
How many students can participate per session?
Each show seats up to 60 students, with a minimum of 50 students per event. Students rotate through five activity stations in Zone 1 with Rangers at each station, then come together for the Zone 2 show. School events above 60 students run as multiple back-to-back shows in the same booked slot — for example, a 150-student event runs as three Basic shows in the morning slot.
Educational Content
What do students learn from the dinosaur program?
Students learn dinosaur classification, prehistoric timelines, fossil identification, and how scientists study extinct species. Rangers teach through storytelling and hands-on discovery — students handle 30+ touchable fossil replicas at the Master Fossil Exhibition, dig for fossil replicas at the Fossil Dig Station, and interact with the lifelike baby dinosaur puppets. Topics align with NGSS and Florida STEM standards and cover life science, scientific inquiry, earth history, and paleontology.
Is this a STEM program?
Yes. The curriculum draws on source materials from the Smithsonian, the American Museum of Natural History, Harvard Museum of Natural History, the Florida Museum of Natural History, the Paleontological Society, and National Geographic Kids. It integrates Science (paleontology, life science, earth history), Technology (the AI-powered Triceratops on Premium, AI Photo Station), Engineering (fossil excavation methodology), and Math (timeline reasoning, size comparisons). Aligns with NGSS and Florida STEM standards.
Do you provide materials for teachers?
Yes — after booking, schools receive pre-event resources through the customer portal: lesson plans (short dinosaur-themed lessons aligned to event curriculum topics), social media posts (pre-written for the school's official accounts), printable flyers, and family communication templates ready to send through the school's existing channels. Recommended timing guidance is included for when to share each piece in the days and weeks before the event.
Booking & Scheduling
How far in advance should schools book?
We recommend booking 4 to 6 weeks ahead. Popular weeks — Dino Week, Science Week, STEM Days, and end-of-year celebrations — book 6+ weeks out. Minimum lead time is 7 days; the system blocks anything closer. We serve Broward, Miami-Dade, and Palm Beach counties only.
How many students can participate per session?
Each show seats up to 60 students, with a minimum of 50 students per event. Students rotate through five Zone 1 activity stations with Rangers at each station, then come together for the Zone 2 show. Schools above 60 students run multiple back-to-back shows in the same booked slot — shows run continuously without breaks between sessions.
Can you handle multiple classes in one day?
Yes. Day capacity is up to 8 Basic shows (480 students) or 5 Premium shows (300 students) per day in the full-day window (8 AM – 6 PM). Shows run continuously back-to-back without breaks between sessions, so schools should plan class rotations around the continuous schedule. Schools with student counts beyond a single day's capacity book additional event days.
Space & Logistics
What space do you need at the school?
We need a 30×30 foot flat clear surface, access to a standard 110V outlet within reasonable cord distance, and ceiling height of at least 8–9 ft for Basic or at least 10 ft for Premium (the 8-foot T-Rex needs the headroom). Gyms, cafeterias, multipurpose rooms, media centers, courtyards, and playgrounds all work. Rangers handle setup and cleanup.
Do we need parent volunteers?
No parent volunteers needed. Our Rangers staff every station and manage all aspects of the experience. We only ask that teachers escort their class to/from the venue and remain present for supervision. You control the flow—we handle everything inside the zones.
Is there a travel fee for schools?
No travel fee within our service area (Broward, Miami-Dade, and Palm Beach counties). The per-student price includes everything—dinosaurs, activities, Rangers, setup, and breakdown.
Program Details
How long is the school program?
Basic events include about 60 minutes of programmed experience per show; Premium runs about 90 minutes (the 60-minute Basic experience plus the ~30-minute theatrical layer). Events run inside a booked slot — morning (8 AM – 1 PM), afternoon (1 PM – 6 PM), or full-day (8 AM – 6 PM). Rangers spend 1 to 1.5 hours setting up inside the slot and about an hour packing up afterward.
What hands-on activities do students get?
Every student rotates through all five Zone 1 activity stations: the Master Fossil Exhibition (30+ touchable fossil replicas — bones, fangs, claws, eggs, skulls), the AI Photo Station (each kid's photo is dropped into a prehistoric scene, parents get free downloads after), the Fossil Dig Station (kids use real brushes and tools to uncover hidden fossil replicas and match them against identification cards), the Dino-Inflatable Target Game (sandbag toss at target zones), and the Discovery Play Mat. In Zone 2, they meet the baby dinosaur puppets (five for Basic, two for Premium). Premium adds a volcano-eruption opening, the AI-powered robot Triceratops trick show, and the 8-foot T-Rex comedy finale.
Do you provide teacher guides or materials?
Yes! We provide teacher guides with pre-visit activities, vocabulary lists, and post-visit extension ideas aligned to standards. These help maximize the educational impact and give teachers tools to continue the learning after we leave.
Can we run multiple sessions in one day?
Yes. Schools above 60 students run multiple back-to-back shows inside the booked slot. Day capacity is up to 8 Basic shows (480 students) or 5 Premium shows (300 students) in the full-day window (8 AM – 6 PM). Shows run continuously without breaks between sessions, so schools plan class rotations around the continuous schedule. The same per-student rate applies regardless of how many shows are needed.
Funding & Pricing
How much do school programs cost?
Basic is $12 per student and Premium is $15 per student, with a 50-student minimum per event. Premium adds a cinematic volcano-eruption opening, an AI-powered robot Triceratops trick show, and an 8-foot T-Rex comedy finale. Pricing is all-in — no travel fees within our three-county service area, no Florida sales tax, no setup or cleanup surcharges. The same per-student rate applies whether the school runs one show or multiple back-to-back shows in the same day.
Can we use Title I or PTO funds?
Absolutely! Our STEM-aligned programming qualifies for Title I enrichment funds, PTO/PTA budgets, cultural arts grants, and STEM initiative funding. We provide all documentation needed including W-9, certificate of insurance, and detailed invoices. Many schools split costs between multiple funding sources.
Do you offer discounts for Title I schools?
JPZ doesn't offer Title I, nonprofit, charity, teacher, or other discounts — pricing is the same for every school. The only way to reduce price is through our referral program: when a school you refer books an event, you earn 10% off your next booking. Referrals stack — multiple referrals stack up to a 50% cap. Schools commonly fund events through enrichment budgets, PTA fundraisers (parent-pay), grants like Title I or STEM grants, or a mix of these models.
Safety & Staff
Are your staff background-checked?
Yes. Every Ranger passes a Level 2 background screening (fingerprint-based) as required by Florida schools. We can provide verification documentation upon request. Our team is trained in child safety protocols and professional conduct.
Do you carry liability insurance?
Yes, we're fully insured and can provide a Certificate of Insurance (COI) naming your school as additional insured upon request.
What if students are scared of the dinosaurs?
We keep it fun and comical—never scary! Our Rangers go slow with hesitant kids and never force interactions. Initial nervousness usually fades within minutes once students see classmates having fun. Most "scared" kids become the most enthusiastic by the end.
Field Trip Benefits
Why are field trips good for students?
Research shows experiential learning increases retention by up to 75% compared to traditional instruction. Field trips also build social skills, spark curiosity, and create "anchor memories" that help students connect future learning to concrete experiences. In-school field trips deliver these benefits without the logistics of leaving campus.
Why do we teach kids about dinosaurs?
Dinosaurs are a "gateway science"—they teach scientific thinking through a topic kids are naturally passionate about. Students learn to ask questions, examine evidence, and understand deep time. This early engagement with paleontology often sparks lifelong interest in science, geology, and natural history.
Does this align with state standards?
Yes! Our programming aligns with Florida STEM standards and Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). We cover life science concepts, scientific inquiry, and earth history in age-appropriate ways that complement classroom learning.
