Frequently Asked Questions

About the Experience

What is a dinosaur petting zoo?
A mobile, hands-on dinosaur experience we bring directly to your event. Every event has two zones: kids first rotate through five activity stations (Zone 1), then come together in Zone 2 to meet the baby dinosaur puppets — five for Basic (Raptor, Pterodactyl, Stegosaurus, Triceratops, and Brachiosaurus) or two for Premium (Premium's theatrical show layer replaces the rest of the petting zoo time). Unlike a museum, the dinosaurs are Broadway-level puppets kids actually touch and interact with.
What ages is the dinosaur petting zoo best for?
JPZ is designed for ages 2–12, with the sweet spot at 2–5 — peak dinosaur fascination age. Our primary school audience is preschools and daycares, where the format lands strongest. Elementary kids who are still into dinosaurs love it too, and mixed-age groups (3-year-olds and 7-year-olds together) handle fine since every kid does every station and meets every dinosaur regardless of age.
Are the dinosaurs scary for young children?
No — the baby dinosaur puppets are designed to be friendly and approachable. Younger kids tend to warm up quickly. Rangers introduce each baby dinosaur gently, and most kids who are hesitant at first are touching the dinosaurs within a minute or two.
Do you only do schools and birthday parties?
No — JPZ works for any event with a kid contingent. Corporate events and company family days, charity fundraisers, weddings with a 50+ kid group, homeschool co-ops, summer camps, after-school enrichment programs, baby showers and gender reveals with kids attending, and bar/bat mitzvahs all fit. Birthday flat-rate covers up to 60 kids; events with 50+ kids use our per-student school-event tier.
Are you available year-round?
Yes! We operate year-round in South Florida. Whether it's a spring birthday, summer camp, fall school program, or winter holiday event—our dinosaurs are always ready for an adventure.

Why Kids Love Dinosaurs

Why do kids love dinosaurs so much?
Dinosaurs tap into children's natural curiosity about the unknown and powerful. They're real creatures that once existed, yet feel like fantasy—big enough to be awe-inspiring but extinct enough to be safe. This combination of wonder and mystery fuels imagination and makes learning feel like an adventure.
Are kids who love dinosaurs more intelligent?
Research suggests children with "intense interests" like dinosaurs often develop stronger cognitive skills. Memorizing dinosaur names, classifying species, and understanding geological time periods exercises vocabulary, categorization, and abstract thinking—all building blocks for academic success.
At what age do kids stop liking dinosaurs?
The peak "dinosaur phase" typically lands between ages 2 and 5 — the sweet spot for our experience. Many children maintain their fascination through age 12, and some carry their love of paleontology into adulthood as scientists, artists, or enthusiasts.

Cool Dinosaur Facts

What are 5 cool facts about dinosaurs for kids?
1) T-Rex had teeth as long as bananas! 2) Some dinosaurs were as small as chickens. 3) Dinosaurs lived on Earth for over 165 million years. 4) Many dinosaurs had feathers, not just scales. 5) The word "dinosaur" means "terrible lizard" in Greek!
What is the friendliest dinosaur?
Plant-eating dinosaurs like Triceratops and Brachiosaurus are often considered the "friendliest" because they didn't hunt other animals. Our Triceratops is a crowd favorite—kids love approaching this gentle giant with its iconic three horns and friendly face!
What was the smartest dinosaur?
Troodon is believed to be the smartest dinosaur based on its brain-to-body ratio. Velociraptors were also highly intelligent pack hunters. Our Rangers share these fascinating facts during the experience, helping kids understand how scientists learn about dinosaur behavior from fossils.

Booking & Service Area

What areas in Florida do you serve?
We serve three South Florida counties only: Broward County, Miami-Dade County, and Palm Beach County. This includes cities like Fort Lauderdale, Miami, Boca Raton, West Palm Beach, Hollywood, and Pembroke Pines. No service outside these three counties — no exceptions.
How far in advance should I book?
The minimum lead time is 7 days — the booking system blocks anything closer. For birthday parties we recommend 2 to 4 weeks ahead, since weekend dates fill up fast. For school events we recommend 4 to 6 weeks ahead, with popular weeks like Dino Week, Science Week, STEM Days, and end-of-year celebrations booking 6+ weeks out.
What's the best way to contact you?
Phone is fastest. Call (855) 723-1630 — our line is staffed 24/7. For non-urgent questions, email chiefranger@jurassicpettingzoo.com (3–5 business day response).

What's Included

What dinosaurs are included in the experience?
Basic events include all five lifelike baby dinosaur puppets in the Zone 2 petting zoo: Raptor, Pterodactyl, Stegosaurus, Triceratops, and Brachiosaurus — each with its own custom song and props. They're Broadway-level puppets, not animatronics or a person in a costume. Premium events feature two baby dinosaur puppets in the petting zoo plus three Premium-only theatrical elements: a cinematic volcano-eruption opening, an AI-powered robot Triceratops that performs tricks on command, and an 8-foot T-Rex comedy finale.
Do you provide everything or do I need to prepare?
We bring everything — dinosaurs, props, fossil dig stations, games, and trained Rangers. You just provide the space and the excited kids. Rangers handle setup, run the entire experience, and pack up afterward. The host doesn't move equipment, supervise activities, or run anything — your job is to enjoy the event.
What makes Jurassic Petting Zoo different?
Three things: Broadway-level baby dinosaur puppets kids actually touch, hug, and 'feed' (not animatronics behind a barrier), five hands-on activity stations every kid rotates through during Zone 1, and trained Rangers who run setup, the entire experience, and cleanup. We don't just show up with dinosaurs — we run the whole day so hosts get to enjoy it.

Comparisons

How is this different from a dinosaur museum?
Museums display dinosaurs behind glass, and guests look. JPZ brings dinosaurs guests can actually touch and interact with, plus five hands-on activity stations and Rangers who guide every group through every activity. JPZ also comes to your location, so there's no field trip across town.
How does this compare to Jurassic Quest?
Jurassic Quest is a ticketed convention experience you travel to with crowds. We're a private, mobile experience that comes directly to your school or party with dedicated Rangers and personalized attention. No lines, no crowds—just your group having an exclusive dinosaur adventure.

Space & Setup

What space do you need for setup?
We need a 30×30 foot flat clear space, access to a standard 110V outlet within reasonable cord distance, and ceiling height of at least 8–9 ft for Basic or 10+ ft for Premium (the 8-foot T-Rex needs the headroom). Gyms, cafeterias, multipurpose rooms, garages, backyards, and parks all work. Rangers arrive at the start of the booked slot and spend 1 to 1.5 hours setting up inside that slot.
Can you do outdoor events?
Yes — backyards, parks, pavilions, courtyards, and playgrounds all work. Shade isn't required; the team handles outdoor events in direct sun without issue. The 30×30 ft flat-surface and standard 110V outlet requirements still apply. If weather turns severe on event day, weather rescheduling is always free and doesn't count against your one free reschedule.

Policies

What is your cancellation policy?
A 50% non-refundable deposit secures your date. The remaining balance is due before your event and our team will follow up by email to arrange payment. Cancellations follow a 14-day rule: with more than 14 days notice the deposit can transfer to a rescheduled date (one free reschedule); with less than 14 days notice the deposit is forfeited. Weather rescheduling is always free and doesn't count against the free reschedule.
What happens if the weather is bad?
For outdoor events, weather rescheduling is always free and doesn't count against the one free reschedule. JPZ makes the call, typically the morning of the event based on the forecast. Light rain — we wait it out. Heavy rain, active storms, or lightning — reschedule, no penalty. For a Tropical Storm or Hurricane in the forecast, we typically reschedule 48 to 72 hours ahead. Indoor events aren't affected by weather.
